Once again, Yelp is getting sued for blackmailing small businesses. The owner of one of my local cafes has been hit with this.
Yelp gave a Jane Doe a brand new MacBook and sent her into the cafe (strangely, she carried the MacBook around in its retail box). She bought a coffee and a pastry, then wrote a great review but only gave it three stars. Turns out she does this a lot: in the last month, Jane’s written 198 reviews.
Yelp called a couple days later and offered to filter out those kinds of reviews for $390. Despicable.
